We have seen lot of action and innovative IT adoptions by various vertical industries in 2014. Some of the most remarkable trends were Salesforce acquisitions and new cloud computing models offered to the world. Thought they were many entrants in the cloud space, Salesforce.com maintained the cloud momentum and innovation with Salesforce 1 platform. On the Analytics front we have seen solutions from new players addressing complex challenges especially in the areas of data discovery, advanced visualization tools and predictive analytics. Companies like qlikview, mongo, spotfire and tableau made an indelible mark in 2014. There will be spurt in new vertical solutions in 2015. Their unique offerings were easily recognized by many verticals industries, the bigger players like Oracle, SAP, IBM and Microsoft dominated the scene with huge market share. While the new players made a mark that signifies there will be stiff competition from new entrants in 2015. There is a lot of buzz on mobility and internet of things (IoT), according to Gartner assessment there will be an increased emphasis on serving the needs of the mobile user in diverse contexts and environments, as opposed to focusing on devices alone. Smart phones and wearable devices are part of a broader computing offering to include connected screens in the workplace and in public spaces. User experience design will be of critical importance.
The Internet of Things will continue to expand, propelled by the ubiquity of user-oriented computing. Gartner posits that this will be replicated both in industrial and in operational contexts, as it will be the focus of digital business products and processes. Embedding technology more deeply will create touch points for users everywhere. This will form the foundation of digital business.
